Rare early document signed by German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel. Dated October 24, 1938 as Major and rare as such. Most Rommel documents seen today are from Africa Korps. 1 pg, 8 x 5 inches. Signed with indelible pencil as seen later. Some people believe Rommel carried pencils due to ink drying in the hot sun of Africa, but this document shows a much earlier use of his pencil and contraindicates this belief. Great item.

Great content TLS by General Maxwell Taylor as Chief of Staff of the United States Army. 2 pg,Washinton, Nov 28, 1955, 8 x 10 inches, excellent condition. Important mission statement for the Army. Taylor writes to General Albert Kenner requesting his assistance for his "continuing support in interpreting the Army to the American people..." He goes into some detail regarding the purpose of the Army, and citing its need for flexibility, "... Our national defense forces exist primarily to dter war, secondly, to win the war which cannot be prevented...There is no one weapon which can deter or win all wars...There is no one kind of war to enfross our attention...The Army is the Nation's first line of defense. Whereever ther American soldier is stationed along the Iron-Bamboo curtain he is a visible obstacle to the aggressor and a source of encouragement to our friends..." Rare ALS by Admiral Husband Kimmel who was in command of Pearl Harbor Naval defenses on December 7, 1941. Scapegoated by superiors, Kimmel tried to defend his position the rest of his career. Dated April 25, 1955, Kimmel writes to correspondent, "Your letter makes me feel that my labors in unearthing the facts and presenting them in my book have been really worth while. I wrote the book to give to the American people the truth about Pearl Harbor in the hope that they would find a way to prevent such occurrences in the future. IF the book helps to accomplish this I will be content...Husbnad E. Kimmel" Great comment about his efforts to educate the public about the circumstances surrounding the attack on December 7, 1941.
